In 2014, the Colorado Health Foundation awarded St Vrain Valley Schools a Physical Activity Grant in the amount of $1.4 million. The Physical Activity Grant was designed to support St Vrain Valley Schools in increasing the amount of student participation in daily moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA). Specifically, all 31 elementary and K-8 schools received funding and support to: implement opportunities for movement before (or after) school, incorporate movement breaks into classroom instruction time, and provide more opportunities for movement during recess. There is an extraordinary relationship between physical activity and the brain. Movement impacts academic achievement and behavior, as well as physical, emotional and social health. The purpose of this website is to provide parents and teachers access to research and resources that support the integration of physical activity into the school day.
